How are all DoD civilian positions categorized?

High, medium, and low security levels

Sensitive and non-sensitive categories

Special Sensitive, Critical Sensitive, Non-Critical Sensitive, and Non-Sensitive

The categorization of all Department of Defense (DoD) civilian positions is based on the level of sensitivity associated with national security responsibilities. This three-tiered system differentiates positions and their access to sensitive information based on the potential impact that unauthorized disclosure could have on national security.

Positions classified as "Special Sensitive" deal with information that, if compromised, could cause exceptionally grave damage to national security. "Critical Sensitive" positions may involve significant access to classified information but of a slightly lower tier. "Non-Critical Sensitive" positions include roles that involve a degree of access to sensitive information, but the potential impact of compromised information is less severe. Lastly, "Non-Sensitive" positions do not have access to classified information and therefore are not associated with national security risks.

This structure is designed to ensure adequate security measures and background checks are applied according to the sensitivity of the position, thereby safeguarding national security interests.
